Better to read the contents directly from the DeLonghi board, thus preventing (over)heating the IC. The board has a nice connector for that...
In most cases reading zero's / code protect is a problem in your hardware setup or wiring.
So better test on a new PIC of this type first if you can read and write succesfully to it. What software do you use?

The software is PICKIT 4 with the newest MPLAB. Not mine, a colleague's. I was not afraid of soldering, I have a lot of experience and the right tools.
What settings do I need to pay attention to in order to read the microcontroller properly?
I can only get back to it early next week.

I don't know, I use another programmer and other software.
But I advise you to buy a new PIC and first experiment on that, finding out how to read contents and flash it with your hardware setup. If that works, then you can try it on the DeLonghi PIC.
