I hope someone on this forum can help me as I live in Australia have very poor german language skills.
I have managed to basically interpret the many posts on this forum about the Saeco Magic comfort with a blocked brew group.
My machine is the update model and I have checked the electric motor the transmission gears and the transmission limit switches and they all work fine.
I have removed the brew group and bypassed the 3 interlock switches, and as soon as the door switch is bypassed the machine pre-start self test commences and the brew group motor starts to turn, it rotates about halfway to the coffee making position then it returns to the normal parked position and the 'brewgroup blocked' message shows up.
I am sure the fault is on the electrical control board and I have checked the Triac which has the motor circuit wires going to it. This Triac is not short circuited so I believe the fault is else where on the control board. Can someone please advise me in english how to conduct a self test of this machine also can they recomend a circuit diagram to help me and a preferred list of components to change.
Thanks in advance and pardon my poor german language skills. :)

Hi,

Look into this HTML-file --->> Der Saeco-Getriebemotor ---- Autor: hmilbradt -- Fotos: meistens Forum-Archiv
The file contains several circuit diagrams that explain how the brew group works. I am sorry it is in German and there is no Magic Comfort diagram.
So use the Royal infos and disregard the names of the parts T1 R1 etc. These names differ even between Royal boards.
Measure the resistance between the cables yellow / yellow and red / blue at the pulled gear motor plug, reconnect the plug and measure the voltages in test mode between the same points.
Post the results.

You attached this posting to a thread that's marked solved. So I opened a new thread for you. This way it gets more attention by other members.

regards
Harry

brew group blockage may result in mechanical failure. Have You almost checked the transmission
wheels of the transmission assembly? Mostly the small wheel have damaged or missed parts and the
brew group can not be moved properly. Did You hear any noises before? Did you see any parts of wet coffee powder spots in the service room?

Hi thanks for the info.
I have opened the transmission and checked the gears condition, there was no damage or missing gear teeth. I have also checked the transmission limit switches and they were working properly.

Following the advice from earlier post I believe the power transistor or the zener diode has failed as the actual voltage I measured at the connector for the blue and red wire going to the electric motor was only 3.2 Volts

Hi,

I agree with your assumption. Both parts should be changed at the same time. The primary fault is very often the failure of the Zener ZD 33V which opens the power transistor completely, the resistance of the collector-emitter-path decreases to almost 0 Ohms and the transistor dies through a "sunstroke".
By the way this failure happens very often in the gear motor power regulation circuit. It is on position #1 of the defect-list.

Harry

Thanks Harry

Thanks Harry for running such a useful forum, thanks for all your help and advice, your troubleshooting information (about my brew group being blocked) that it is likely to be the motor drive transistor and zener diode that had failed was right on the money.
I replaced those parts this morning and now I am enjoying a fresh expresso as I type this post.
If you were a local I would invite you over for a nice dinner and drinks.
Good luck, good health and keep up the good work.
