Better to read the contents directly from the DeLonghi board, thus preventing (over)heating the IC. The board has a nice connector for that...
In most cases reading zero's / code protect is a problem in your hardware setup or wiring.
So better test on a new PIC of this type first if you can read and write succesfully to it. What software do you use?

The software is PICKIT 4 with the newest MPLAB. Not mine, a colleague's. I was not afraid of soldering, I have a lot of experience and the right tools.
What settings do I need to pay attention to in order to read the microcontroller properly?
I can only get back to it early next week.

I don't know, I use another programmer and other software.
But I advise you to buy a new PIC and first experiment on that, finding out how to read contents and flash it with your hardware setup. If that works, then you can try it on the DeLonghi PIC.

The owner took it to a garage for cleaning. The next day the service man called to say that the panel was defective. I don't know what happened to it. It's like the processor is not even in there. The 5V power is fine. It is also possible that he got another defective main board back...
Could something else be causing the processor to do nothing?

Thanks for the ideas. I don't know this type, I usually repair ESAM models. I have been repairing various electronic devices for 30 years, I have experience and instrumentation.

I checked the circuit and found nothing abnormal. All voltages are fine, the 50Hz also reaches the controller. I also asked the help of an engineer friend who is a great expert on microcontrollers, he said this PIC is locked up. The only possible solution is that they tried to read it and accidentally locked it or erased it.

I think there's some kind of bug in the PicKit2 'simple' software.
This software doesn't support the PIC18F26Q10.
When I first had a DeLonghi pcb with the PIC18F26Q10, I connected it to the PicKit2 and tried to access it, the PIC was not recognized (of course). But... after that, the coffee machine didn't work anymore and the PIC seemed to be erased (!) Strange...
Well, at least that's my experience, for what it's worth.

So that's why I advice to first have a working and tested hardware/software set-up with a PIC18F26Q10, that may be 'bricked'. And only after that try to dump/program an actual pcb ;-)

I understand, but we tried to read with PICKIT 5, which recognized the controller. If I wanted to read a working machine, I would do as you suggested, but this machine does nothing, the controller shows no sign of life.
